A NOT-To-Do List

I recently listened to a conversation on Fresh Air (NPR, Terry Gross) with a popular author that I can't remember the name of. The author was female and older, maybe in her 60s or 70s. She was very well spoken. That doesn't tell you very much, but anyway...

She said that she makes lists of things she's not going to focus on. And I thought it was such a refreshing idea. I make so many to-do lists that writing a not-to-do list feels refreshing. So, I started my own list, and I'll be updating it over time. It's fun, but it's not as easy at you might think! Try it. Share it if you do :)

Things I will NOT be doing in 2013:

  • Give damn about the haters
  • Devote any time to learning about early Russian history (I'll leave that to the history buffs)
  • Check Facebook every 5 minutes, especially during conversations (will need to work on this one!)
  • Devote much attention or make much effort to those who do not reciprocate
  • Overwhelm myself with projects or more than 3 major goals (need to work on this!)
  • Overthink during meditation (need to work on this!)
  • Pretend to be someone I'm not
  • Mourn the loss of Mitt Romney in the 2012 election
  • Consider Donald Trump's toupe
  • Overspend on useless crap like junk food and other things I don't need (need to work on this!)
  • Buy any more plants!
  • Drink cheap alcohol
  • Purchase anything oer $30 without considerable though or without reviewing how it will impact my savings, money flow, or any credit card debt
  • Take forever to make decisions
  • Discuss politics or religion with anyone
  • Rant on Facebook
  • Worry over things I cannot control
  • Take on too much at work
  • Travel to Timbuktu
  • Have my car towed
  • Listen to strict heavy metal or scream-o
  • Over use sarcasm
  • Forget to stretch after workouts
  • Sky dive
  • Bungee jump
  • Get on a rollercoaster (I'm just not a thrill seeker!)
  • Over-indulge
